How To Paint Deadzone Plague Mutants

Deadzone and Warpath are two of Mantic Games' excellent Sci-Fi games set in the Warpath universe. Possibly one of the most interesting factions in the universe are the Plague faction. As the plague moves from planet to planet, that planet is shut down and removed of planetary maps as Enforcers go in to eradicate the plague threat. While there, other factions fight to either take control of the planet, or just try to survive to onslaught. I love the look of the Plague faction. I like to imagine that as the plague is taking hold of its host, it is stripping the skin off of them, allowing the bone-like armour to protrude through. With this in mind, I painted the faction to look as it they were raw flesh, glistening with blood and sinew. This tutorial can be used either to paint your own Plague Mutants, or be used for specific sections, like if you want to paint a flesh effect for something like a Gibbering Mouther or Beholder in Dungeons and Dragons. How To Paint Charred / Burned Flesh

Image
This technique uses Citadel's Agrellan Earth texture paint to create an excellent charred look for your models and scenery. This technique would look great on the battlefield on tree stumps that have been torched, buildings that have been set ablaze and, as shown in the video, to make your zombie horde stand out a bit if you have duplicate zombies. The technique is very simple to achieve and the video takes you step by step to create it. The models I use in the video are from Mantic Games' The Walking Dead: All Out War.
